Author Success Story: Meygan and Casey Caston

Lucinda had the pleasure of hosting Casey and Meygan Caston, co-founders of Marriage 365 and authors of Connecting Questions for Couples: 365 Days to Deeper Love and Connection. Their journey from near-divorce to becoming sought-after authors and content creators is a testament to resilience, creativity, and mission-driven passion.

A Marriage Transformed into a Mission

Casey and Meygan’s story begins with their everyday marriage struggles . Despite their love, they found themselves without the tools to navigate conflict and communication, nearly leading to divorce. Determined to turn things around, they sought resources but found them lacking. This gap inspired them to create Marriage 365 in 2013—a resource-driven platform helping couples foster deeper connections.

“We were two stubborn, strong-willed individuals who learned how to save our marriage,” Meygan shared. The couple’s honesty about their journey resonated, sparking a movement that has grown exponentially.

The Leap into Self-Publishing

Before their traditionally published success, Casey and Meygan ventured into self-publishing. Their first e-book, Naked Dinners, sold 3,000 copies in three weeks—a surprising validation of their message. This early success encouraged them to self-publish Connecting Questions for Couples, initially as a barebones version.

“We set a goal of selling 5,000 copies in our lifetime,” Meygan recounted. They exceeded that milestone in just three months, proving the book’s value and paving the way for more projects.

Consistency: The Key to Social Media Growth

Social media played a pivotal role in amplifying Marriage 365. Starting with a Facebook page, the Castons expanded to Instagram and TikTok, learning through trial and error. Meygan emphasized, “Consistency is key. The algorithm rewards regularity, so post often and experiment with content.”

Their journey wasn’t without setbacks—some posts flopped while unexpected ones went viral, like a six-second video of Casey in the rain with a blender that garnered 60 million views. They embraced these surprises, focusing on serving their audience, whom they affectionately call “Marriage Mary.”

From Self-Publishing to a Traditional Book Deal

The transition from self-publishing to a traditional book deal with Penguin Random House’s Harmony imprint was a whirlwind. Initially pitching a new book, Marriage Sucks (It Doesn’t Have To), the Castons’ meeting with the publisher evolved into a three-book deal.

Their editor’s personal interest in the dating market led to the creation of additional concepts, including a revised version of Connecting Questions for Couples. Reflecting on the process, Casey shared, “We were blown away. What started as one book became three, with an offer we never imagined.”

Lessons Learned in Working with Publishers

While traditional publishing brought broader distribution and professional polish, Casey and Meygan found themselves at the helm of much of the marketing. “Penguin Random House provided incredible support, but pushing the book required our full involvement—launch teams, pre-order incentives, and strategy,” Casey noted.

The couple also highlighted the importance of a strong relationship with their editor. “Our editor has been supportive and collaborative, which made the process seamless,” Meygan added.

The Role of Collaboration in Writing

Despite being seasoned writers, the Castons chose to work with a professional collaborator, Liz Morrow, to shape their books. Meygan emphasized the value of this partnership: “Liz brought structure and accountability. Weekly meetings kept us on track, and her ability to translate our video content into compelling writing was priceless.”

Advice for Aspiring Authors

For aspiring authors, Casey and Meygan stress perseverance and adaptability. “We didn’t start as overnight successes. Our first video was awkward, but we kept showing up,” Casey said. They also advise experimenting with different platforms, listening to audience feedback, and refining content iteratively.

What’s Next for the Castons?

As their revised Connecting Questions for Couples gains traction, the Castons are gearing up for more books under their three-book deal. Their mission remains the same: to provide practical tools that help couples connect, heal, and thrive.

Their story is an inspiring reminder that authenticity, hard work, and a clear mission can create ripple effects of impact—one connection at a time. Whether you’re navigating your own relationship or dreaming of publishing a book, the Castons’ journey offers valuable lessons and encouragement.
