Marcie Flinchum Atkins

Author of When Twilight Comes and One Step Forward (Chronicle, HarperCollins, Millbrook Press)

Marcie Flinchum Atkins is a teacher-librarian by day and a children’s book writer in the early morning hours. She holds an M.A. and M.F.A. in Children’s Literature from Hollins University and serves as the nonfiction events coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic chapter of SCBWI.

Marcie is the author of Wait, Rest, Pause: Dormancy in Nature (Lerner, 2019), which was named one of Kirkus’s Best Picture Books of the Year. Her poetry has been featured in The Dirigible Balloon and the anthologies Things We Feel and What is a Friend? (Pomelo Books, 2022). Her YA debut, One Step Forward (HarperCollins), was released in 2025, and her forthcoming nonfiction picture book, When Twilight Comes, is scheduled for release by Chronicle Books in March 2026. Marcie lives in Virginia with her family.
