CAROLYN MURNICK is an award-winning journalist and book collaborator with an extensive background in magazine journalism (10+ years as an editor New York magazine) and a passion for urgent stories that blend personal narrative and reporting. Recent collaborations include Blood On Their Hands: Murder, Corruption, and the Fall of the Murdaugh Dynasty (William Morrow) with journalist Mandy Matney. The book earned a starred review from Booklist, a best Nonfiction pick from Amazon, and Publisher’s Weekly called it, “an engrossing true crime saga…with the unshowy momentum of the best investigative reporting.” Other recent collaborations include editing and coaching on a bestselling essay collection for Simon & Schuster by a notable female comedian. Carolyn has worked with experts and authors across industries, from tech industry whistleblowers to activists on behalf of sexual assault survivors. She is a Mentor-Editor and Fellowship Coach at The OpEd Project, and has deep experience in writing and placing opeds that make an impact. She is trained in trauma-informed coaching and storytelling, and has a demonstrated background writing on crime and legal topics tracing back to her own memoir The Hot One (Simon & Schuster) about her search for answers surrounding her childhood best friend’s murder. The book was recommended by NPR, Entertainment Weekly, and is currently in development as a documentary and scripted series. She is a TEDx speaker and commentator on media outlets including NBC, CBS, and WNYC, and her journalism has appeared in The New York Times and numerous anthologies.
