Room Full of Writers: A Recap of Our Inaugural Lucinda Literary Mastermind

What Happens When 15 Writers Gather in NYC? Inside the Lucinda Literary Mastermind Weekend

Earlier this month, Lucinda Literary hosted our inaugural Mastermind Weekend in New York City—an unforgettable, in-person gathering of 15 writers, all working in memoir and self-help. This immersive experience was part of our yearlong Mastermind Program, offering a rare opportunity for emerging authors to work directly with literary agent and Lucinda Literary founder, Lucinda Halpern, and connect with key figures across the publishing industry.

Our writers came from around the world to join us in the heart of Manhattan for a weekend of workshops, inspiration, and collaboration. While many had backgrounds in writing or publishing, none had completed a book or signed with a literary agent—yet. This program is designed to change that.

A Mastermind for Memoir and Self-Help Writers Serious About Getting Published

What makes the Lucinda Literary Mastermind unique is its small, invitation-only format. Capped at 15 writers, this program provides focused coaching, ongoing accountability, and access to top editors, agents, publicists, and authors in publishing today.

Throughout the weekend, we explored what publishing gatekeepers are looking for in debut authors, how to position a book for traditional publishers, and the behind-the-scenes process of signing a book deal. Writers received feedback on titles, platform-building strategies, and how to find the right media hooks to stand out in a crowded market.

Here’s what participants took away:

  • Actionable insight into what literary agents and editors want in first-time authors

  • Clarity on book titles, positioning, and marketable messaging

  • Real-time feedback from publishing professionals and fellow writers

  • A better understanding of how to pitch your book to publishers

  • The confidence and community to move forward

Why In-Person Publishing Events Still Matter

Since 2020, many writers have been navigating the publishing world remotely. But as we saw this past weekend, nothing replaces the magic of being in the room: workshopping with your peers, sharing meals with mentors, and building authentic relationships that support your growth as a writer.

As Lucinda shared in her recap:

“Our human need to connect and collaborate has never fully been satiated since 2020. I think we appreciate the honor and the opportunity all the more.”

Over the course of two days, we workshopped writing, brainstormed new directions, and talked openly about the roses, buds, and thorns—the wins, hopes, and challenges—of building a writing career.

The Yearlong Mastermind Continues

The Lucinda Literary Mastermind is more than a one-time retreat. It’s a yearlong experience that includes bi-monthly group coaching on Zoom, access to our private coaching channel (hosted on Circle), discounted one-on-one consults with agents, and two NYC publishing weekends per year.

Whether you’re early in your book journey or have been stuck in the middle for too long, this program is built to move you forward—with the structure, strategy, and community you need to finish and sell your book.

Want to Join the Next Mastermind?

Our 2025 cohort is currently full through the summer, but applications for future enrollment are open. If you’re a woman or man writing in memoir or self-help, and are serious about learning how to get a book deal, build your author platform, and connect with publishing insiders—this program is for you.
